The European Biotechnology Report 2003 entitled “Endurance” was published in May. The reports have become standard reference works, providing a source of business and financial data for the biotechnology industry in Europe and the USA.
This year’s study reports a slight European-wide slowdown in the biotechnology industry. The number of biotechnology companies remained stagnant, showing an actual year on year decline. Turnover fell by two percent to 12.861 billion euros. R&D expenditure was also lower. R&D spending fell for the first time by 11 percent. However, the level of R&D expenditure still remains higher than industry turnover. To order the report, go to www.ey.com.
