As before, the book contains two separate official compendia – the USP and the NF. The USP contains legally recognized standards of identity, strength, quality, purity, packaging, and labeling for drug substances, dosage forms, and other therapeutic products. The National Formulary (NF) includes standards for excipients, botanicals, and other similar products. The edition has more than 4,000 monographs including descriptions, requirements, tests, analytical procedures, and acceptance criteria.
