Cancer Gene Expression Technology

Europroteome is a biomedical firm with an associated network of oncology experts. The company applies state-of-the-art gene expression technologies – in particular proteomics and transcriptomics – to human cancer cells.

Europroteome strives to identify molecules whose expression in human cancer cells differs significantly from normal cells, thus serving as target structures for the development of novel therapeutics and diagnostics. Several novel targets have recently been identified in stomach cancer and colorectal cancer. The company applies its own proprietary method to isolate and purify (>95% pure) human epithelial cancer cells from surgical specimens. All data from these cancer cells are analysed in a “differential display” mode against control epithelial cells isolated from the same patient, and referenced to the patients medical records. The company applies state-of-the-art gene expression technologies including 2D-PAGE, mass spectrometry, CipherGen–SELDI TOF, DNA microarrays, quantitative real-time PCR, Biacore X system, yeast-2-hybrid system, and cell culture systems.

All of Europroteome’s research activities are linked by comprehensive bioinformatic systems and recorded and documented using an industrial standard LIMS. Europroteome has target discovery, validation & development programs underway in a number of epithelial cancers including breast, colorectal, liver, lung, pancreas, and stomach cancer. To accelerate clinical trials the company offers Drug Responder Profiling with a focus on identifying responding patients and optimizing inclusion criteria, a collaboration with Transgene, Strasbourg, was signed earlier this year. Moreover, Europroteome developed OncoAssist, a computer-based system to identify early stage colorectal cancer patients with high metastasis risk. Europroteome seeks partners worldwide with an interest in cancer research and development.
