Temperature Controlled Position for Automated Liquid Handling

Exact temperature control is essential to preserve the quality of the samples and guaranties good results and thus for comparable process control. This article describes the
requirements of the biotech research and the principles of temperature controlling. Furthermore the advantages and disadvantages
of existing solutions are discussed. Finally a
design concept for an improved heating and
cooling position is shown.
In the field of lab automation numerous sample formats have been evaluated; meanwhile they are standardized according to the new listed SBS (The Society for Biomolecular Screening) standards. 96, 384, 1536 well Microplates with flat or round bottom are available, tubes and reservoirs in many sizes and breading plates with membranes, all of them in various material types. During the pipetting operation and the analysis an exact temperature control is essential to preserve the quality of the samples and guaranties good results and last but not least for comparable process control.
