Team-work in peptide and protein labelling
Biomarker technology

, den 05. Oktober 2005

Foster City and Carlsbad /USA – Applied Biosystems and Invitrogen have announced an alliance to develop improved products for proteomic analyses and biomarker studies in drug discovery and disease research. The agreement will include a combined suite of technologies consisting of Applied Biosystems' iTRAQ and ICAT reagents for protein and peptide labelling and Invitrogen's SILAC metabolomic labelling technology. Together, these can provide biological insights into diseased and normal tissue, serum or cell culture samples, by comparing their relative protein expression levels. The iTRAQ reagents can be used to label all peptides and detect post-translational modifications, as well as for simultaneous measurement of the expression profiles of up to four different sample types in a single experiment. SILAC provides a tool for quantitative analysis of differential protein expression and allows researchers to view metabolic changes in different cell lines and compare normal, diseased and drug-treated samples.
